What are the technical roles of a product launch?

Your technical launch team is responsible for handling the all technical aspects of the launch. Some of these items are described in a sequential flow while many components are tied together and can be worked on at the same time.

First you need to decide on and purchase a domain name. A hosting account will need to be set up with a host ISP (Internet service provider). The domain name is registered to the IP provided by the host company. An account would need to be set up with an email list host company. A squeeze page needs to be set up for each piece of prelaunch content that is released along with a thank you page. The thank you page will let the user know they need to check their email and confirm their email opt-in.

Upon confirmation, the auto responder then needs to send out a link to the content page the user signed up for. The content page needs to be set up to house the prelaunch content being given away. This often will include setting up and streaming a video, and possibly providing other downloadable materials or files. The content page needs to be set up so the only way into it is through the opt-in list process. The content page can also contain a blog which will allow users reviewing the content to post their comments on this page.

Each piece of prelaunch content would have its own squeeze page. Your technical team can set this up so once the user opts-in once and they are on the launch list (and at any point in the launch process) so they would not be required to optin again i.e. once the user is on the launch list any future links they would receive would receive direct access to all the prelaunch content.

Your technical team will also need to set up the sales page. Typically this will include setting up a streaming video and a link to the check out page. The checkout page contains your payment options, single pay or multi pays. This is where a shopping cart comes into play. These options will be connected to your payment gateway using your Internet merchant account. There are several different methods of checking out but once the user selects the product and payment plan and clicks the order button you may want to take the user through a series of upsells or downsells. You will need to ensure that the shopping cart software that you are using allows for this functionality. This would often be three to five additional pages to program with offers based on the user’s next decision. These are often positioned as order customization pages.

Once the user reaches the end of the sequence they are presented with a final receipt page or they are taken directly to a thank you page. A receipt email needs to be sent out from the shopping cart software with the user’s total purchase outlined. Also an automated email should be sent to the buyer thanking them for their purchase which would contain their unique access log-in credentials to get immediate access the membership site or page.
Your technical team will set up analytics tracking for each squeeze page, content pages and the sales page(s). The email autoresponder software automatically tracks the send, open and click thru rates.
